Thanks to the evolution in the marriage system, couples nowadays get more opportunities than ever to spend time together before marriage. If you have found the right partner and got engaged, it’s time to start your exercise of knowing each other better by spending time together. There are no dearth of reasons and venues. Meet over a cup of coffee in your favourite restaurant; go for a movie and some shopping, join a hobby class together, or go on a long drive.

  1. Open Up Slowly

Relationships are not nurtured in a day. Like a farmer, you need to put your best effort to create a fertile ground. Understand each other’s comfort zones and speak your mind gradually. Discuss both likes and dislikes. The topics could vary from relationships to social to politics and beyond. If you share similar family, academic or professional background, you are most likely to understand each other quickly. However, differences are enjoyable too. It’s human psychology that we are keen to discover the undiscovered things.

  1. Avoid Faking

Authenticity is the essence of any relationship. It’s normal to focus on each other at this stage, however, it doesn’t mean you fake the real you.  Stop pretending what you are not or what you don’t love doing.

Don’t resort to flattery just to make him or her smile or for getting an affirmative acknowledgement from your would-be partner. For instance, if questions arise on your failure or success, there is no harm in admitting facts. Don’t make false claim about your achievements. This is the worst kind of mistake that couples do and, it only defies the real purpose of courtship.

Internet, smartphone and apps have become innate part of our lives. Use them judiciously to convey your care and love to your would-be partner. Pursue communication, especially, the non-verbal ones with a sensitive and caring approach,as you are yet to understand each other fully. SMSs, WhatsApp or Facebook messages or videos, or anything you share with your partner should be pleasant, respectful, honest and fun. Avoid sharing something that is unpleasant, ambiguous or likely to get interpreted in some other ways.

  1. Make Your Would-be Partner Mingle with the New Family

It’s fine to understand each other, but it’s equally important to understand the family of your would-be partner. Take the initiative to help your would-be partner meet with your family members, including parents and siblings. Invite him or her to lunch or dinner in a cheerful environment. Before you do so, seek permission of your family members and try to keep everyone on the same page regarding arrangements, gifts, time, etc. You family is most likely to appreciate your attempt and it will give your would-be partner a positive impression about your family.
